An Evaluation of Risk Factors Associated with Pregnancy Related Acute Kidney Injury in Women Admitted to High Dependent Care Unit at Women And Newborn Hospital, Lusaka-Zambia.

Objective: To evaluate factors associated with Pregnancy-related Kidney Injury (PRAKI) in women admitted to high dependent care unit at Women and Newborn Hospital Lusaka, Zambia
 Methodology: This was an unmatched case-control study conducted the high-dependent Lusaka. Study participants were recruited consecutively by convenient sampling. Participants’ medical records reviewed capture serum creatinine levels; while a structured questionnaire administered eligible consented data on sociodemographic, obstetric factors. Serum levels above 84µmol/l used as criteria for classifying PRAKI. Excel cleaning Stata v13 analysis. Descriptive statistics done all variables followed univariate multivariable logistic regression determine association. 95% CI p value of <0.05 considered significant.
 Results: The comprised 185 participants, split into 85 PRAKI (cases) 100 without (controls). median age 29 years 11years interquartile range. 75.3% (139) marriage relationships. Pre-existing hypertension most prevalent condition both cases (51.8%) controls (38%). Sickle cell disease much less common 1.2% 8% controls. Among conditions, preeclampsia 77.6% 60% respectively. Eclampsia found 38.8% 11% Sepsis least 4.7% cases. that such eclampsia (AOR = 5.12, [2.14 – 12.23]; p≤0.0001), 2.46, [1.12 5.39]; 0.025), postpartum haemorrhage development Medical conditions not PRAKI.
 Conclusion: Thus mainly eclampsia, preeclampsia, post-partum haemorrhage.
